Learn what cops know at Prescott Valley Citizens Police Academy

PRESCOTT VALLEY – If you’ve ever wondered why or how police officers do their jobs the way they do, here’s your opportunity to find out.

The Prescott Valley Police Department is holding its 2017 Citizen Police Academy beginning Tuesday, Feb. 21.

The free 11-week class will allow civilians to learn about the mission, philosophy and operations of the department, and the extensive training that PVPD officers receive before and throughout their time on the street.

Subjects covered include firearms training; special weapons and tactics; hostage negotiations; traffic and DUI enforcement; gang task force; volunteers in policing; and more.

The academy will run from 6 to 9 p.m. each Tuesday night through May 2 at the PVPD Training room, 7601 E. Civic Circle.

Class size is limited to 30 and applicants must complete a background check. For information and an application, visit http://pvaz.net/805/citizens-police-academy.
