The Phippen Museum offers a Basic Painting Workshop for beginners and those experienced painters who wish to expand their skills. Taught by Sedona artist Gretchen Lopez, this two-day workshop takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11-12.
Lopez will introduce students to the basics of starting a painting, learning about different brushes, and mixing color from a limited palette.
Participants will work from a still life the first day, then from photo reference on the second day. However, students are also welcome to bring their own reference material.
This class is recommended for ages 15 and older and includes a lot of instructor demonstrations and one-on-one interaction. The cost for this in-depth workshop is $150 and some materials are required.
Lopez has taught at the Sedona Arts Center for more than 15 years, and has won recognition at the Sedona Plein Air Festival. Class size is limited; register by calling the Phippen Museum at 928-778-1385.
