Social media helps nab 2 Marana teens for vandalizing
MARANA (AP) — Authorities in Marana say posting pictures on social media has led to the arrest of two teenagers accused of vandalism.
Police said Saturday that both teens were identified and arrested thanks to multiple tips from the public. A surveillance camera captured two teenage boys spray-painting a wall in the Pines Golf Course neighborhood.
Police tried to determine their identities by talking with schools in the area.
Phoenix police: 9-year-old girl dies after SUV-truck crash
PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say a 9-year-old girl has died and a 7-year-old boy remains hospitalized in critical condition after the SUV they were riding in collided with a dump truck in south Phoenix.
Phoenix police say the crash occurred about 7 a.m. Monday. They say the 32-year-old woman who was driving the SUV suffered injuries that weren’t life-threatening. According to police, the girl was pronounced dead at a hospital.
It was unclear if the SUV driver was the mother of either child.
Police didn’t immediately release the name of the woman or the two children.
They say the dump truck driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.
Man booked in hit-and-run death of pedestrian in Glendale
GLENDALE (AP) — Authorities have arrested a man in the hit-and-run death of a pedestrian who was hit by a truck in Glendale while crossing a street.
Glendale police say 60-year-old Kevin Murphy struck 43-year-old Paul Hernandez on Saturday evening.
Hernandez was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police say a witness followed the truck that struck Hernandez and got photos of the vehicle, its license plate and of Murphy.
Murphy has been booked on hit-and-run and other charges.
It’s not known whether Murphy has yet been assigned an attorney.
