Senior pickleball players compete in local tournament

With 211 registered players from Arizona, California, Utah, North Carolina and Australia, the Prescott Lakes Senior Pickleball tournament was played at Prescott Lakes Athletics Club on Aug. 18-20.

The tournament consisted of all doubles teams in the men’s, women’s and mixed doubles divisions sectioned off by age groups 50 and up.

In the men’s 50-59, Prescott locals Jim Thomas and J.T. Schulze claimed silver, while Dan Bergan and Joe Nelson claimed silver in the 70-plus division.

In mixed doubles, Denise Ashworth and Bob Truckenmiller took gold in 70-plus division, while Sue Haywood and Jerry Kowell were finished with a bronze medal.

In women’s doubles, Prescott local Denise Wolfe and her partner (unknown) took bronze.

Up next, the Mile High tournament is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 8, through Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Prescott Pickleball Complex at Pioneer Park.
