Len Parmet

Len Parmet passed away on April 15, 2017. Len was a hero to his family and many veterans over the duration of his 44-year career. Len worked as a counselor in both Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Prescott, Arizona, VA Hospitals, where he went “above and beyond” for every single veteran that he counseled.

Len was just out of high school when the Korean Conflict began. Because he loved the sea and had a passion for his country he eagerly chose to enlist in the Navy. Len was so proud of being in the Navy that when his deployment was up he joined the reserves.

In 1956, Len met and married Gerry. She was his advocate and the love of his life. Family was extremely important to Len. He cherished his children and grandchildren and modeled his work ethics and moral integrity for them to emulate in their lives.

Len used his GI bill to obtain his education at the University of Michigan. Throughout life, he remained an avid and dedicated U of M sports fan. Len’s favorite gifts had logos for either the Navy or the University of Michigan, his two intangible loves.

For family medical reasons, the Parmets relocated from Michigan to Prescott in 1967. Len was always an active volunteer for a variety of nonprofit organizations. He felt a strong allegiance to this fantastic community and was eager to “pay it forward.” Len’s most dedicated community service was to the West Yavapai Guidance Clinic. He served on the board for 40 years, as well as traveled to Flagstaff monthly to represent the clinic.

Len is survived by Gerry, DC Parmet (Sherry), Ellen Newell (David), Matthew, Levi, and Ashleigh.

As Len had requested, there will be a Military ceremony honoring him later this month. His ashes will be placed in Prescott National Cemetery Columbarium, as well as Gerry’s when she passes. A heartfelt “thank you” for the flowers, cards, phone calls and condolences extended to our family.
