2 dogs die in Chino Valley fire
A fire started by Chino Valley homeowners burning weeds on Wednesday, April 26, spread to nearby dog kennels and resulted in the deaths of two dogs, Central Arizona Fire Division Chief Rick Chase said.
Firefighters responded to the report of a structure fire in the 2000 block of Willow Breeze at about 11:30 a.m.
They found a grass fire that had extended to the kennels, Chase said, after homeowners had started a fire to burn weeds they had removed.
Despite windy conditions, firefighters were able to stop the advancing flames before they spread to adjacent structures, Chase said.
Once the fire was out, the crew remained on the scene and, at the request of the homeowners, buried their dogs under a large shade tree, he added.
A Trauma Intervention volunteer was called to the scene to assist the homeowners.
No injuries were reported to firefighters or the home’s residents.
