Letter: Grandparent scam
I received a scam call from Atlantic City, New Jersey, for a grandparent.
My “grandson” was in car accident and needed DUI bond money to be wired that would be refunded as long as I gave all my personal information.
He was being held in the Atlantic City Court House; they had the public defender’s name and phone number.
I turned this information over to the Federal Trade Commission. The red flag was money being wired to an unknown source.
Before a grandparent wires money, please check to see if your grandchild is actually in the place indicated or at work in their home state.
The more information you get, the better information you can give to the Federal Trade Commission.
