Letter: Respect the flag
A few days ago I was driving near the Prescott Valley Civic Center. I went by the Healing Field to see the flags. Several individuals (employees or volunteers) were taking down the flags. I was shocked to see that the flags taken down were laying on the ground in a pile. I spent five years during the Vietnam era serving the armed forces of this country. As such I along with others were spat on coming home at the Seattle-Tacoma airport in Seattle and watched a group yelling baby killers stomp on our flag during a demonstration. I would like to know what the procedure is for taking down and storing our country’s flags after an event at the Civic Center. I felt this process of laying the flags on the ground was disrespectful to all that have served.
