PRESCOTT – Kaytlin Yost had 11 kills, seven digs and five block assists, Jordan Tilley chipped in with 24 assists, but the Yavapai College volleyball team committed 22 attack errors, resulting in a season-low .039 hitting percentage and they were swept 3-0 by Arizona Western on Saturday afternoon.
It is the seventh straight loss for the Roughriders, which lost 3-2 to the same club less than 24 hours earlier in a five-game thriller Friday night.
Two of those losses have come against nationally ranked opponents in No. 8-ranked Salt Lake Community College (3-0) and No. 2-ranked College of Southern Idaho (3-0) on Sept. 9 at the Star Invitational in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Yavapai began the season winning eight of their first 10 matches, with their last victory coming Sept. 7 in a 3-0 sweep over Central Arizona College.
In Saturday’s 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-23) loss to Arizona Western, Tilley added 12 digs to her assist total. Yost had two ace serves, but committed 11 attack errors, Iva Alebic added eight kills and 15 digs, and Hanna Semon chipped in with 16 digs.
Yavapai (8-9, 2-4 ACCAC) will have nearly a week to regroup before hosting Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Friday, Sept. 23. Official start time is set for 7 p.m.
After Chandler-Gilbert, the Roughriders hit the road for a four-match road swing beginning with Scottsdale Community College on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
