Corridor Briefs: Week of Sept. 9


Taco TWO Tuesday will be held Sept. 13 at the Cordes Lakes Community Center, 16357 S. Cordes Lakes Drive. There will be beef or chicken, hard or soft shell, at $1.50 each or 4 for $5. It is for take-out or eat-in from 4 to 7 p.m. This event will be held the SECOND Tuesday of each month – Taco TWO Tuesday.

Breakfast at the Center will resume with full breakfast combos starting at $5 on Sept. 17 from 7 to 10 a.m. Free coffee to members.

Cordes Lakes Days will be Sept. 17 and will be “A Family Affair” with food, fun and games for the entire family. Raffle tickets on sale now at $1 each or 6 for $5 for your choice of a barbecue grill, rock star sign, wi-fi system, phone system and more.

The American Legion returns on Sept. 21 with the meeting starting at 6 p.m. at the ’50s Diner Conference Building. In addition to the regular meeting, they will be honoring a local volunteer.

The Fire Board has moved its meeting to Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 6 p.m. at 11975 S. Highway 69. They are proposing a budget override be placed on the November ballot, so come and let your voice be heard.


Bingo is held every Wednesday at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. with sandwiches and snacks available.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is held weekly on Fridays at 20049 E. Club Lane. Weigh-in is at 8:45 a.m., with meetings starting at 9 a.m.

The Tuesday Planning Committee will now meet at 9 a.m. every Tuesday. Meetings will be run by Toby Jahns with Dee Real assisting her. Meetings are open to everyone to present their ideas and to help with fundraising. This is also the time to present your fundraising information to be placed on the published Community Events list.

United Teens meet every Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the Cordes Lakes Library, 15989 S. Cordes Lakes Drive. This group works together on fundraising and volunteering in the community.

Tea & Sympathy. Join the tea party group on Thursdays from 1 to 1:45 p.m. and enjoy tea, cookies, and conversation. It is held at Mayer Meals on Wheels, 10001 S. Miami in Mayer.

Young Lives meets at the Cordes Lakes Community Center, 16357 S. Cordes Lakes Drive, Monday at 7 p.m.

Big Bug Charity Quilters meet every Monday at the Mayer Senior Center, 10051 Miami, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Beading is held Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. Beading Class is held every Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the MAAC, 10051 Miami.

Knit and Crochet at Flour Stone Bakery, 12780 Central, Mayer, meets every Thursday at 9:30 a.m. to exchange patterns and conversation. This is in Mayer and diagonally across from the post office.


Big Bug Gem & Mineral Club holds their outings on the third Monday of the month with meetings held the following Tuesday at 7 p.m. at various members’ homes.   Contact Ken Dunham at 928-899-6810 for more information. Meetings are held at members’ homes and vary by month.

Mayer Fire has its open board meetings on the third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the main location at 11975 S. Highway 69.

American Legion meetings are off for the summer July and August and will resume in September on the third Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. (Sept. 16) in the Conference Room at the ’50s Backseat Diner, 19780 Hitching Post Way.
