PRESCOTT — After a 7-over par 79 effort in round one, Trae Jones quickly hit her stride in rounds two and three with a combined 2-under par 142, claiming the individual title at the annual Embry-Riddle Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.

“I was definitely a comeback kid for sure [today]. In the second and third rounds I got my putting together,” Jones said. “I was rolling things in, and that was helping a lot.”

Jones, a junior, wrapped up her second round with a 2-under par 70, then played an even par 72 over the next 18 holes at Talking Rock Golf Course, finishing with a 5-over par 221 during the 36-hole event.

The Sparks, Nevada-native took sixth in the same event a year ago for the Embry-Riddle women’s golf team, which had four golfers finish in the top five in this year’s invite.

Lauren Kruszewski, who led the field through round one Monday, finished second overall with a 6-over par 222, just one stroke behind Jones.

“It’s always nice to come in and see that you’re at the top. I knew Lauren and I were neck and neck,” Jones said.

Jessica Williams finished tied for third overall, turning in a 236 [+20] card for the two-day event, while Nicole Lopes came in fifth with a 22-over par 238.

Embry-Riddle claimed the team title with a 912 [+48] stroke score. Claremont Mudd Scripps came in a distant second with a 975 [+111], while Arizona Christian wrapped up the top three with a 1,033 [+169].

MEN CLAIM INVITE TITLE

Lewis Breslin shot a 9-over par 225 for fourth overall, Matt Andrews took seventh with a 227 [+11] and the Embry-Riddle men’s golf team claimed first place at the annual Talking Rock event Tuesday afternoon.

“I left a lot of shots out there on the course, especially on the putting green,” said Breslin, a freshman from Renfrewshire, Scotland. “I had a lot of three-putts, but my driving was really good. That was the strong point of most of my rounds.”

Matt Zampello’s 228 [+12] was good enough for a 10th place tie with teammate Kyle Peterson, who shot a 4-over par 76 in round three.

After Zampello opened the tournament with a 2-over par 74 on Monday, he fell a few strokes behind with a 77 in rounds two and three.

Embry-Riddle wrapped up the 36-hole event with a 908 [+44] stroke score, while Biola and Arizona Christian tied for second with a 46-over par 910.

Biola’s Austin Bishop claimed the individual tournament title with a 4-over par 220. After a disappointing 7-over par 79 in round two, Bishop tied second-place winner Domenick Postorino of Arizona Christian with a tournament-best 2-under par 70 during third-round action Tuesday.
