Classic cars, golf and the Special Olympics will all come together on Sunday, Oct. 9, for Special Cars “fore” Special Athletes.

The free classic car show will be hosted at the Club at Prescott Lakes, 315 E. Smoke Tree Lane.

All proceeds raised at the event will be used to support northern Arizona Special Olympics athletes, who participate in sports such as track and field, golf, basketball, baseball and bowling.

“All of our Special Olympics programs are in need of funds to assist the athletes get equipment,” said John Gunby, Director of Golf at Prescott Lakes and coach of the Special Olympics golf team in the area.

This includes things such as shaded tents, uniforms, stop watches and various other athletic equipment.

“Sometimes the state does help with funding, but we’ve found that it doesn’t always meet our needs, especially in rural areas like this,” John said.

On display at the show will be about 150 classic vehicles. The theme will be “Celebrating 100 Years of Motoring”. Two highlighted vehicles will be an 1885 Mercedes Benz and a 1984 Mario Andretti Formula One race car.

In addition to car viewing, there will be vendors, a fashion show, dog obedience demonstrations, food and music provided by radio station KKLD. Thanks to the events supporters, there will also be $25,000 in auction and raffle prizes, which include:

A 10 day, 4-star stay in Cabo San Lucas

Rare Alice Cooper signed and encased album

500 sq ft garage floor coating

A framed, signed Chicago Bears Dick Butkus poster

VIP passes to Russo and Steele’s January Classic Car Auctions

Golf foursomes with dinner from the Club at Prescott Lakes

An encased and signed Gale Sayers football

VIP tickets to Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale classic car event

The event will kick off at 11 a.m. Admission is free and parking is $5 per car for spectators. Pre-registration is required for show cars. For more information, please visit our website at www.sc4sa.org.

The Club at Prescott Lakes is located at 315 East Smoke Tree Lane in Prescott.
