PRESCOTT – A 41-year-old man was arrested Saturday, Oct. 8, and charged with the shooting murder of his wife and her unborn child, according to Yavapai County Sheriff’s spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn.
Kenneth Blair initially told deputies that his wife, Delissa, 41, was accidentally shot at about 5 a.m. as they struggled over a handgun at their home in the 100 block of Wells Fargo Road, D’Evelyn said on Sunday.
When deputies arrived, they found Delissa on the bed with a gunshot wound to the head. She was taken to Yavapai Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.
“Kenneth was detained and eventually admitted in a follow-up interview that he became upset with Delissa and shot her,” D’Evelyn said.
The couple has two other children, ages 5 and 11, who were home at the time of the shooting but were not harmed.
Kenneth was booked into the Camp Verde jail Saturday night on two counts of second-degree murder.
Representatives from the Department of Child Safety, Yavapai Family Advocacy Center and the Trauma Intervention Program responded to assist the children and other family members.
