Obituary: Richard Leslie “Dick” Rader

Dick Rader went to be with his Lord on August 2, 2016. Born in Niles, Ohio, on July 30, 1935, Dick graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor of fine arts degree. He was also a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Following two years training with the U.S. Army Recruits at Fort Hood, Texas, Dick undertook graduate work at the University of Southern California.

He embarked on a forty year career in advertising and marketing communications which took place in a market research firm in Los Angeles, and major advertising agencies in Chicago, San Francisco, and Jackson, Mississippi. Throughout this time, he directed the communications for such firms as International Harvester, Chevron Oil, the U.S. Navy, and Kaiser Permanente Healthcare.

In 1997, Dick and Janis, his loving wife of 45 years, retired to Scottsdale, Arizona, and subsequently to Prescott Valley, Arizona. Since then, he stayed busy raising two standard poodles, one of which is a certified hospital therapy dog. He also volunteered at the Prescott Valley Library, the Yavapai Regional Medical Center, and the Yavapai County Sheriff’s office.

Dick is survived by his sister, Gretchen Valentine of Dexter, Michigan; and three nieces, Jill Russell, Julie Belhaj (Abdul), and Jennifer Russell. He was predeceased in death by his wife, Janis Assaf Rader.

Interment service was privately held at St. Columb’s Episcopal Church in Ridgeland, Mississippi.
