PRESCOTT – Juan Ramirez and Carlo Quesada each scored a goal, goalkeeper Justin Motzkus recorded his sixth shutout of the season and the Yavapai College men’s soccer team earned its 14th-straight win with a 2-0 victory over rival Phoenix College on Thursday night.

Tied 0-0 at halftime, Ramirez’ goal in the 54th minute gave the Roughriders a 1-0 lead off an assist by John Scearce. In the 88th minute, Johnny Ramirez assisted on Quesada’s goal, which made it 2-0.

Motzkus had three saves for Yavapai, which hasn’t lost since a season-opening 2-1 defeat to Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Aug. 23.

Yavapai and Phoenix each took 14 shots Thursday night, while the Bears dominated in the corner kicks department, 7-1. The Roughriders also committed 14 fouls.

The last time these two squads faced one another was Sept. 6, ending in a 0-0 tie. Yavapai was later awarded a 1-0 win after it was discovered Phoenix used an ineligible player. The Bears forfeited a total of six contests due to the infraction.
