PRESCOTT – Juan Ramirez and Carlo Quesada each scored a goal, goalkeeper Justin Motzkus recorded his sixth shutout of the season and the Yavapai College men’s soccer team earned its 14th-straight win with a 2-0 victory over rival Phoenix College on Thursday night.

Tied 0-0 at halftime, Ramirez’ goal in the 54th minute gave the Roughriders a 1-0 lead off an assist by John Scearce. In the 88th minute, Johnny Ramirez assisted on Quesada’s goal, which made it 2-0.
Motzkus had three saves for Yavapai, which hasn’t lost since a season-opening 2-1 defeat to Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Aug. 23.
Yavapai and Phoenix each took 14 shots Thursday night, while the Bears dominated in the corner kicks department, 7-1. The Roughriders also committed 14 fouls.
The last time these two squads faced one another was Sept. 6, ending in a 0-0 tie. Yavapai was later awarded a 1-0 win after it was discovered Phoenix used an ineligible player. The Bears forfeited a total of six contests due to the infraction.
Yavapai (14-1-0, 13-1-0 ACCAC) travels to South Mountain Community College in Phoenix on Saturday, with an official start time scheduled for noon.
The Roughriders return home to host Gateway Community College in Prescott Valley on Thursday, Oct. 13, with a 6 p.m. start time.
