Eagles down Providence Christian, win 10th straight

PRESCOTT – Jalin Yoder had 12 kills and 10 digs, Hannah Mercurio added 30 assists and the Embry-Riddle volleyball team won its 10th straight contest with a 3-0 sweep over visiting Providence Christian on Friday night.

The 10-match winning streak is a school record for the Eagles, which have produced only two winning seasons since the program’s inception in 1999. Embry-Riddle won 20 matches in 2015, and made it to the California Pacific Conference championship before losing 3-0 to La Sierra.

Other standouts in Friday’s match included Kaitlin Shroll, who recorded 14 digs, while Leah De Laurell had seven kills and 1.5 blocks. Lyndsey Weiler had seven kills, two digs and two block assists as well.

Embry-Riddle (12-2, 5-0 Cal-Pac) hosts La Sierra tonight at 7 p.m. in a rematch of last season's Cal-Pac championship.

After La Sierra, the Eagles will host cross-town rival Yavapai College in the “Battle Against Breast Cancer” match Wednesday, Oct. 5. Official start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
