December is not too early to get 'In the Christmas Mood'

The Elks Theatre and Performing Arts Center brings a holiday special to Prescott at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2. In the Christmas Mood: A Holiday Music Spectacular is the perfect show to kick off the holiday spirit. Similar to what families may have experienced watching Andy Williams’ holiday television programs, it includes favorite numbers by singers, musicians and other entertainers. It’s a show that’s appropriate for the entire family.

The concert stars the amazing talents of “American Idol” semifinalist Crystal Stark, New York performer Brian Levario, and husband-and-wife team Jesse (most recently from December ’63) and Laura Berger (most recently from Those British Girls).

A full band, complete with rhythm section, horns and woodwinds, will accompany the singers and add merriment to the evening.

Levario, a busy actor who made his New York solo cabaret debut in August of this year, remembers his Christmases spent growing up in Tucson.

“I come from a huge family – three older brothers and four younger sisters – so the holidays always had a palpable energy. We never went to bed before midnight on Christmas Eve, and were always up at 5:30 on Christmas morning. I haven’t been home for the holidays in two years; and even though I’ve created my own traditions in New York, there’s nothing that compares to being home for the holidays.”

Crystal Stark has always had music as the centerpiece of her holidays. “Now that I have kids, I’m seeing the holiday come alive through them. My son heard ‘Carol of the Bells’ recently and I watched his face as he listened to it. I could see him fall in love with the song on the spot.”

Kids temporarily put a stop to the Bergers’ stage appearance. They’ve been busy with their two sons, Isaac, 3, and Ian, 1, for the past three years.

“I’m very excited to be on stage with Jesse – it’s been too long,” Laura Berger said.

“In the Christmas Mood” pays tribute to the esteemed holiday show classics of Williams and Bing Crosby, and features such hits as “Sleigh Ride,” “Here Comes Santa Claus,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.”

“And, to top it off, we couldn’t be premiering this show in a better place than Arizona’s very own Christmas town, Prescott,” said Khris Dodge, music director and show creator.

Box office is open Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets range from $22 to $25, and also are available by calling 928-777-1370.
