Governor’s Office of Highway Safety awards $35,000 to Prescott Police
PRESCOTT – The Prescott Police Department has been awarded two grants worth $35,000 to be used for traffic safety programs, deputy police Chief Amy Bonney said.
“By partnering with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, grant funds will allow for specific details to increase enforcement of DUI laws along with enforcing speed and other traffic related issues,” Bonney said.
The grant period runs from Oct. 2016 through Sept. 2017, and during that time, Bonney said, the department will conduct “at least one enhanced DUI enforcement detail per month.”
Police will also do a minimum of eight speed and aggressive driving enforcement actions at known problem areas.
Some of the money, Bonney said, will be used to educate the public regarding traffic issues and the impacts and consequences of impaired driving.
