Driver arrested, accused of running down man and his dog
PRESCOTT – A man who police said was driving a stolen car when he struck a pedestrian who was walking a dog was arrested a short time later and charged with several crimes.
Tyler Becker, 20, of Las Vegas, was driving a stolen Ford Fusion Wednesday, May 11 when he hit a 48-year-old man and his dog in the 3400 block of Clearwater Drive, Prescott Police Lt. Amy Bonney said.
“The victim told officers he jumped into his own vehicle and attempted to follow the suspect,” Bonney said. “The victim caught up to the suspect vehicle and at one point, the victim attempted to remove the suspect from the vehicle, however the suspect sped away from the scene. Due to the high rate of speed at which the suspect was driving, the victim decided not to continue following the vehicle.”
The victim sustained minor injuries but did not require a trip to the hospital. The dog was taken to a veterinarian, who treated and released it.
Officers found the Ford at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Sandretto Drive. Becker was located hiding nearby, Bonney said, and police recovered drugs and drug paraphernalia from the car.
The car was stolen from a Las Vegas address, she said.
Becker was booked into the Camp Verde jail on charges of endangerment, possession of stolen property, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an injury accident.
