My Point column: 6 months of tennis, tennis - and more TENNIS in beautiful Prescott!

If you love the game of tennis, or want to get involved one way or another, this column will give you all the direction you could possibly need.

From learning the game from the ground up, play groups, drop-ins, youth camps, college classes, one-day Grand Prix’s, weekend tournaments by ability level or sanctioned open tournaments ... Prescott has it all.

And if you wish to venture to other northern Arizona communities to expand your fun, that’s also included to some degree.

The local pros who help bring the many programs mentioned hon our public tennis sites are Cathy Low, Dave Hibbs, Tim McClintock, Sterling Fetty, Bernie Adam, Nic Cristea, Donnie (the human ball machine) Jones and myself.  The Prescott Area Tennis Association (, Yavapai College ( and the City of Prescott provide many outlets to the public in promoting and growing the game of tennis as does the USTA on a sectional and national basis.

You’ll have to go to the PATA or college websites to see the many outlets for clinics, lessons, cardio classes, drop-in times, etc., as these events are well posted there.

The college website has recently added a web-cam that shows a picture of the courts on a minute-by-minute basis so you can check the weather conditions - which is pretty cool.

This column is one you might want to cut out and put on your refrigerator and the last section has a calendar of monthly special events for you to plan with.

So, here’s hoping to see you on the courts this year maybe more than ever! (I will be co-teaching the May 13 event with Sterling Fetty.)

Special Events, Camps, Classes:
