Prep Track & Field: Bradshaw’s Ryan Shaver places 3rd in discus at D-II state meet
MESA – Bradshaw Mountain High’s Ryan Shaver captured a third-place medal in the discus at the 2016 Division II State Track & Field Championships on Saturday, May 7, at Mesa Community College.
Shaver’s toss of 152 feet, 7 inches was about 5 feet shorter than runner-up Keaton Pilimai’s of Queen Creek (157’ 8”). Desert Edge sophomore Tyson Jones easily won the state title (173’ 6”).
A mark for the Bears’ Dylan Wallace in the high jump finals was not immediately available at press time.
MESA – In the Division II discus finals on Saturday, May 7, Prescott junior Cade Parker claimed 16th with a throw of 128 feet, 11 inches.
For the Prescott girls, sophomore Brittany Resendez took 15th in the shot put finals (33’ 2”).
A time for the Badgers’ Matthew Bradley in the finals of the 3,200m run was not immediately available at press time.
MESA – Chino Valley junior Katie Farnsworth placed fourth in the 400m dash at the Division III State Track & Field Championships on Saturday, May 7, with a time of 1:00.39.
Farnsworth qualified for the 400m finals with a prelims time of 1:00.95.
She also finished ninth in the finals of the 200m dash, crossing the line in 27.5 seconds. In the prelims for the 100m dash, she took 13th in 13.31 seconds, but missed the finals cut.
On the boys’ side, junior Gavin Thompson placed seventh in the finals of the 300m hurdles in 42.29 seconds. He qualified for the finals with a prelims time of 42.06. In the 200m dash, Thompson missed the finals cut, taking 22nd in the prelims (23.97).
Senior Brian Skinner finished 16th in the prelims of the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.36 seconds, missing a finals qualification. Skinner also finished 22nd in the 300m hurdle prelims in 45.08 seconds, also falling short of the finals’ cut.
For the Cougars’ girls, Lauren Foster and Mya Pullins ran in the 400m dash prelims, taking 14th and 23rd, respectively, and did not qualify for the finals.
The Chino girls’ 4x400m relay team of Foster, Sandra Falls, Pullins and Farnsworth finished seventh in the finals in 4:20.42.
MESA – Mayer High senior Makellia Colquitt medaled in the shot put in the Division IV state finals, placing second with a throw of 35 feet, 1.75 inches.
In the high jump finals, sophomore Hannah Stillbert finished 13th (4 feet, 5 inches) and sophomore Charlie Sweetland was 18th (4’ 3”).
On the boys’ side, Kwame Jackson finished 15th in the prelims of the 100m dash (11.87 seconds) and 15th in the prelims of the 200m dash (24.23), missing a finals qualification in both.
