Hell Canyon bridge work to delay drivers
Bridge girder placement is almost complete at Hell Canyon (milepost 345) on Highway 89 north of Chino Valley.
Drivers can expect delays of up to 30 minutes between 10 and 11 a.m. and again from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, March 14 and 15. Drivers will be stopped in both directions approaching the project. Crews expect to finish by Tuesday, March 15, weather permitting.
The installation of the girders is accomplished using very large cranes positioned in the bottom of the canyon. Temporary road closures occur while girders are flown over the existing bridge.
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) advises drivers to proceed through the work zones with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel. ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
