CORDES LAKES -- The Bug Creek Fire grew just 80 acres overnight, and is now 50 percent contained.

The blaze, which started Tuesday morning, June 28, has burned 1,080 acres near the town.

Evacuations ordered Tuesday were lifted by nightfall, and residents were able to return home.

There are 70 people working the fire Wednesday, and they will secure a line around the homes. None have been lost at this point.

"The containment will increase once we are certain the hot spots in the fire area that may challenge containment lines are suppressed," BLM spokeswoman Dolores Garcia said.

Interstate 17, which was closed Tuesday near Cordes Junction, is now open in both directions, but northbound is restricted to one lane.
