Chino Valley Mudcats place second in Arizona

The Chino Valley Mudcats 13-and-under traveling baseball team placed second at the United States Specialty Sports Association’s state championship tournament on June 12.
The Phoenix Raskulls defeated the Mudcats in the title game, 12-4. It was their third game of the day. They had lost to the Raskulls 16-4 earlier in the day for their first loss.
Chino Valley defeated the Mesa Grinders 13-1, the Flagstaff Seminols 12-3 and the South Phoenix Bulldogs 10-7 to reach the title game.
The Mudcats had to play all five games over two days with only nine players because of an injury to catcher J.R. Willingham.
Jacob Hogan was 2 for 3 with 4 RBI in the win over the Grinders. Pitcher Kaleb Burns earned the win.
Pitcher Thomas Bartels struck out five in four innings in the victory against the Bulldogs. Seth Jelovic and Brady Olague both scored twice.
Pitcher Joey Sanchez earned the win against the Seminols, allowing only three hits.
First baseman Riley Roskopf and Hogan were both 2 for 3 in the title game, knocking in three of their teams four runs.
