Who: Funk FREQuency
When: Saturday, June 11, 7 p.m.
Where: Bucky’s Casino, Third Floor, 1500 Highway 69, Prescott
What: ’70s and ’80s funk and disco dance
Funk FREQuency will be among the first bands to perform Saturday in a new space at Bucky’s Casino.
Lead guitarist and band manager Michael Weight said they’ll be performing 7-10 p.m. in the casino’s third floor.
“It’s a very small space, but we’ll make it work,” he said.
He described his band as northern Arizona’s only ’70s and ’80s funk and disco dance band.
Wright said most people know the band for its disco performance.
“We only do about 30 percent disco,” he said. “But we’re the only band doing disco and doing it proper.”
He said the band’s influences include groups like the Ohio Players and performers like James Brown and Prince.
Their style – both musically and visually – puts the band in a special niche.
“We put on a show so people visually go, ‘Wow,’” Wright said.
The band started eight years ago and began performing in 2011. Wright said the band is a contrast to the array of rock country and metal bands in Prescott.
“This is the music that I love,” he said. “we put it out there, and we were booked 11 months straight, every weekend.”
He said the band’s performances get people to shake and move.
“It’s about dancing,” Wright said. “It’s human nature.”
The band’s current lineup includes Wright on vocals and lead guitar, Julie Ericson on vocals, Neil Orlowski on keyboard, Jon Poole on drums and Joe Serrato on bass.
