Yavapai men’s soccer releases 2016 fall schedule
PRESCOTT — The Yavapai College men’s soccer team will kick off its 28th season in 2016 with two road matches before playing its home opener Tuesday, Aug. 30, versus Paradise Valley Community College at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley.
Yavapai’s Prescott home opener at Ken Lindley Field is slated for Thursday, Sept. 8, vs. South Mountain C.C.
In addition to two pre-season contests, the Roughriders’ 21-game regular season will feature 12 home matches, including six each in Prescott and Prescott Valley.
Kickoff for all home matches is at 6 p.m. The seven-time National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I national champion Roughriders own a 288-14-3 all-time record at home.
The 2016 schedule marks the return to Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, for the NJCAA National Tournament.
The first national tournament for NJCAA men’s soccer was played in 1961, eight years before the first academic course was offered on Yavapai’s Prescott campus. Since 1990, the Roughriders have qualified for 20 national tournaments, finished in the final four 18 times and have made 13 appearances in the national championship game.
Yavapai College has captured three national titles in New Jersey, three in Texas and one in Phoenix.
In 2008 in Phoenix, the Roughriders completed a perfect 26-0-0 season.
The Roughriders’ all-time record is 574-50-27 since 1989, as they have captured 73 conference, region, district and national titles. Entering his 28th season at Yavapai College, Mike Pantalione has coached all 651 matches in the program’s storied history.
