Letter: Transit plan
TransitPlus 2016 report discussed formation of a transit district for the Town of Prescott Valley. Report showed a broad demographic benefit if implemented. Matching federal funding is currently available for this type of need. Transit programs similar to this operate in like size areas.
Funding responsibility locally is a concern. Implementation of the property tax is an unpopular subject. Apprehension exists if this would reasonably represent those taxed. Alternative studies and funding would be prudent to consider.
Several of the Town of Prescott Valley council recently mentioned the need for the public to request this through a verified petition process.
Establishing sufficient public interest is first necessary. Then the process of this being on the ballot would be appropriate. Citizens should be the ones requesting and authorizing this possibility.
Cloud of negativity has formed on the subject. Confusion over the effectiveness of current transit programs is an issue.
Public’s opinion is not been clearly defined.
Based on the information to date I support the concept of public transit, however I withdraw my support of its implementation at this time.
