PRESCOTT - Detainees at the Yavapai Juvenile Detention Center assaulted officers on Sunday, Jan. 17, leading to a riot in the facility.
At about 7:45 p.m., the inmates began the assault, and when the officers were unable to gain control of the situation, they left the area, according to press release issued by the Yavapai County Superior Court.
That's when three juveniles "severely damaged the pod and tried to escape the detention center," the release states. Prescott police and Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies responded and put down the riot.
Three detention officers and the three inmates involved were treated and released from Yavapai Regional Medical Center.
"The incident is being investigated by the Prescott Police Department and they are working with the Yavapai County Attorney's Office regarding criminal charges against the juveniles involved in the incident," the release said.
