Local Optimist Club to sponsor oratorical contest for students; deadline is March 4

The Optimist Club of Yavapai County is encouraging area students to speak their minds about the topic “How my Best Brings out the Best in Others” as part of the Optimist International Oratorical Contest for the 2015-16 year.

The Optimist Club will judge the local students’ speeches based on content and presentation to determine the top winners. Participants will receive certificates and winners will earn medallions, while winning speeches will automatically place at the zone level, and compete at the district level in Tucson for the opportunity to win college scholarships. Students under the age of 19, who have not yet graduated from high school or the equivalent, are eligible to participate.

The deadline to hand in speeches is Friday, March 4, 2016 and the contest will be on Friday, March 11. Students wishing to participate in the oratorical contest can find out more about the contest by contacting Michael Whiting at 928-772-3227.

This is the first year that the Optimist Club of Yavapai County will be participating in the Optimist Oratorical Contest while being active in the community since 2013. Other programs that the Club is involved in include an annual Essay Contest and the annual Youth of the Year.
