Prescott attorney elected president of state lawyer's organization
PRESCOTT - Prescott attorney John Sears was elected president of the Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice (AAJC) at its annual meeting on January 29 in Chandler.
Sears has lived in Prescott since 1978, when he worked with Community Legal Services.
He went into private practice in 1981.
Sears married Judy, his high school sweetheart, in 1972, and now they work together at his law practice.
AACJ, founded in 1986, is a statewide membership organization of criminal defense lawyers, law students and associated professionals dedicated to protecting the rights of the accused in the courts and in the legislature, promoting excellence in the practice of criminal law through education, training and mutual assistance, and fostering public awareness of citizens' rights, the criminal justice system and the role of the defense lawyer.
In 2011, Sears received the John J. Flynn Lifetime Achievement Award from AACJ, becoming the first recipient from outside Phoenix or Tucson.
