IT'S MEAL TIME: Locals benefit from food delivery program
Duane Spencer is a happy - and lucky - recipient of meals through Mayer Meals on Wheels. In order to be more in-tune with the area, Judge Rummer served meals on Thursday, February 18, in the Cordes Lakes area, with Duane being on the list. Keep in mind, Meals on Wheels serves about 100 meals per day with 60 of them being delivered by volunteers.
Duane stated that he loved the program. The food is good and he gets a well-balanced meal of healthy food. Something that he probably wouldn't and couldn't do for himself. He said with the rising cost of food, trying to eat healthy is quite a challenge. The Meals on Wheels has met the challenge and, as he states, keeps him able to live independently. Duane also mentioned that if he is away from home as at a doctor's appointment, he can call ahead and they will leave him a frozen dinner that he can heat later.
The Mayer Area Meals on Wheels is always in need of donations and volunteers.
Talking to Duane gives insight on how important this program is to the recipients. Any help the community can give is appreciated.
