Obituary: Clyde Austin Bauer

Clyde Austin Bauer, 87 passed away peacefully at his home in Yavapai Hills, Prescott, on Feb. 10, 2016, with his loving wife of 36 years, Norma by his side. He is now at rest with the Lord.

Born in Bell, California, on May 13, 1928, Clyde grew up and later raised a happy family of three children in South Gate, California, with his first wife, Janice.

Clyde made service to the Lord and His Church central to his life. He served as a deacon, board member, usher, choir member and church treasurer for many years at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Huntington Park, California.

Clyde lost Janice to cancer just as their children were becoming young adults. He was blessed to find the second love of his life, Norma VanDalsem, singing in the choir at St. Luke's. They were married and proceeded to build their dream home in Yavapai Hills. When it was completed, they moved to Prescott and immediately became active in the American Lutheran Church of Prescott. They both sang in the choir, played hand-bells and participated in the life of the church in every way.

Always athletic and fiercely competitive, Clyde played in a co-ed softball league along with Norma, as well as competing in a number of bowling leagues, tennis matches, AZ Senior Olympics and table tennis matches. For many years, he volunteered at "The Rock" where he gleefully trounced the high schoolers who went there to play table tennis, aka "ping pong." Sons Doug and Brad recalled similar experiences from their high school days playing ping-pong in the garage.

Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; and his sister Alice Inman of West Palm Beach, Florida. He is survived by his wife Norma; sister Eleanor Gibson of Sacramento, California; daughter and son-in-law Caryn and David Coss of Clovis, California; sons and daughters-in-law Doug and Tinna Bauer of Glendale, California and Brad and Kathleen Bauer of Flagstaff, Arizona; as well as 12 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He is loved and missed by

all.

Visitation will be 3 to 4 p.m. with A Celebration of Life Service at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, at the American Lutheran Church, 1085 Scott Drive, Prescott, Arizona. A brief graveside remembrance and internment will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016 at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, California.
