Man killed in light plane crash near Flagstaff identified

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say a pilot was killed when his twin-engine plane crashed in woods near Flagstaff.

Coconino County sheriff's spokeswoman Erika Wiltenmuth says the victim of the Tuesday evening crash has been tentatively identified as 76-year-old Homer "Mac" McClure.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says preliminary information indicates the plane crashed after taking off from the Flagstaff airport, and Wiltenmuth says the crash site is approximately five miles southwest of the airport.

The Sheriff's Office says authorities found the crash site near State 89A after residents in subdivisions south of Flagstaff reported hearing a loud crash.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say one person is dead following the crash of a light plane near Flagstaff.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office says authorities found the crash site near State 89A after residents in subdivisions south of Flagstaff reported hearing a loud crash Tuesday night.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says preliminary information indicates that the twin-engine plane crashed at about 8:30 p.m. after taking off from the Flagstaff airport.

A Sheriff's Office's spokeswoman didn't immediately respond to inquiries and it wasn't immediately known whether the person killed was the only person aboard.
