James ‘Pete’ and Della Newnum celebrate 65 years of marriage
James “Pete” and Della Newnum will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on April 10, 2016.
World War II U.S. Navy Seabee veteran Pete met Della on a blind date where they were dating other people. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married six weeks later at Central Church of the Nazarene in Phoenix.
They honeymooned in a cabin at the Grand Canyon where deer grazed in the yard.
They are the parents of three children, Marla Bridges, Paul (Cindy) Newnum and Scott (Leah) Newnum, and have 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
They came to Prescott when Pete retired as a printer at the Arizona Republic newspaper and Della as a librarian in Paradise Valley School District.
The couple will celebrate the anniversary and also Pete’s 94th birthday with a family gathering on Sunday at their home in Prescott Valley.
