Heading to Phoenix this weekend? Note road closures
Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) reports on improvement projects requiring closures and other restrictions along Phoenix-area freeways this weekend, April 9-11. Schedules may be affected by inclement weather.
ADOT recommends drivers plan ahead, consider alternate routes and use caution in work zones while the following scheduled restrictions are in place.
Southbound I-17 is narrowed to two lanes overnight with intermittent 30-minute closures near Anthem Way from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday nights for overhead message sign work.
Southbound I-17 on-ramp at Anthem Way will be closed.
DETOUR: Drivers who normally would use southbound on-ramp at Anthem Way should consider using southbound Gavilan Peak Parkway to Daisy Mountain Drive to enter I-17.
Northbound I-17 is closed overnight at Highway 74 (Carefree Highway) from 11 p.m. Monday, April 11, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, for traffic-flow sensor work.
Northbound I-17 on-ramp at Carefree Highway also will be closed.
DETOUR: Northbound I-17 traffic can exit at Carefree Highway and use northbound North Valley/Gavilan Peak parkways to Pioneer Road to re-enter I-17.
Northbound I-17 is narrowed to one lane (right lane open) overnight between the I-10 “split” interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and 19th Avenue from 9 p.m. Sunday, April 10, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 11, for pavement repair.
DETOUR: Consider using westbound I-10 in the downtown Phoenix area to reach I-17 at the “stack” interchange west of Deck Park Tunnel.
