Obituary: David Jonathan Mayo
November 9, 1950 - March 29, 2016
David Jonathan Mayo, born Nov. 9, 1950, in Vermont to Mr. and Mrs. John Robert Mayo, passed away March 29, 2016, at the Veterans Hospice Hospital in Prescott, Arizona.
Survivors include his sister, Debra Mayo of Vermont; nephews Joe and wife Toni, Alvin of Prescott Valley, Arizona; his dog Spike; and many friends and family of Church of Christ.
Jonathan grew up in Vermont. He had a happy childhood. He worked with his grandfather on his fishing boat and also made maple syrup. He traveled all over Canada with his father. After high school, he went to college in Minnesota.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and
Vietnam. He was an expert marksman and demolition specialist. He was injured in Vietnam and given an honorable discharge. Back in the U.S.A., he worked many jobs: a firefighter for the forest service, he installed fiber optic telephone lines all over the U.S. and gas pipes in Texas. He came to Prescott, Arizona, in a Volkswagen van. He met and married an Indian woman until her death. He became a Christian and had many friends. He spent many times at the Veterans Hospital in Prescott, Tucson and Phoenix. He died in hospice care at the Prescott VA.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Prescott Church of Christ, 1495 E. Rosser St.
