HUSD celebrates National Board Certified Teachers, Master Teachers

Pam Clark - Master and National Board Certified Teacher

Pam Clark - Master and National Board Certified Teacher

Teachers are the building blocks in the foundation of student success. Humboldt Unified School District takes this statement very seriously by challenging their teachers to transform their classrooms into a place where academic achievement, reflective teaching processes, and a connection to students, parents and staff are a top priority.

Humboldt Schools are proud to have 30-plus Master and National Board certified teachers on their school campuses. These highly qualified teaching professionals provide mentoring opportunities for new teaching staff, help experienced teachers expand their knowledge base, and are instructional leaders within the district.

This professional development journey begins with the Arizona K-12 Center in Phoenix. Interested teachers must first meet certain requirements to be eligible for the program by having a baccalaureate degree, a state licensure, receive positive teaching evaluations, and a minimum of three years in the classroom. This two to three year process ensures that teachers walk away with effective teaching practices, as well as lasting support systems in place from Arizona K-12 Center professionals.

Master and National Board Certified Teacher Diane Lerette works at Mountain View Elementary School. Lerette first went through the Master Teacher program and then advanced her studies to complete the National Board Certification. Lerette describes her journey like this: "These programs have helped me to become a better teacher because I was able to reflect on my teaching ability and help students grow both academically and personally. I was excited to be directing my own professional development."

Pam Clark, another HUSD Master and National Board Certified Teacher from Coyote Springs Elementary School, has taken her teaching status to the next level by becoming an Ambassador for the Master Teacher program. Clark has graciously volunteered her time and experience to assure that all participants of the program have the support and guidance they need to be successful during this process.

As you can see, HUSD teaching staff is the "best of the best", ensuring a comprehensive, world-class education for all students.
