I find it very interesting when I presented all the facts to my 14-year-old granddaughter on Question 3 the retirement funding tax. I asked her how she would vote. She wanted to ask a couple of questions before she gave me her answer.
1: If the tax is voted in then the town and all the visitors would pay the same rate. Answer: Yes.
2: If it is not voted in only the town pays for it. Answer: Yes.
3: How will the town pay for it? Answer: Raise taxes in other areas and reduce services to the people.
Her reply was "I would vote yes."
When I told her the town voted no she asked me why. I told her the people did not want any new taxes.
She then said why? She said if they voted no they would get other taxes and lose services. So why wouldn't they vote yes and get more people to help pay for the retirement debt, and not lose their services. I could not answer that.
