Betty Joyce Karl, 78, of Prescott, passed away peacefully on Sept. 8, 2015 after a valiant struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born May 12, 1937 in Claypool, Arizona, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Cornelius Houlihan and Luril Mina Watson.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Arthur H. Karl; their children Arthur W. Karl, Diane C. Karl-Berry, Robert R. Karl, Joyce A. Leanderts and Debra L. Hernandez; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to those she loved. Her smile, laugh and loving spirit were infectiously contagious and uplifted all those she came in contact with whether it was family, friends, or colleagues. Betty loved the cartoon character Betty Boop, which became her nickname at a young age.
Betty was passionate about bringing family together for all holidays, birthdays and special occasions. She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed sharing her home-cooked meals and desserts with others as well as sharing her talents in the kitchen with her children and grandchildren. Betty especially loved Christmas and kept the spirit of giving in her heart year round - along with the music. Betty also enjoyed movies, plays, musical theaters and baseball. She loved to travel and was a life-long learner who enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing (winning) Scrabble, Yahtzee and poker.
She will be missed by those who loved her. She is now at home with our Heavenly Father and is finally at peace.
Donations in Betty's honor can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org or P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home assisted the family with final arrangements.
