Mayer football crushes Roadrunners, 74-14
MAYER - Quarterback Chandler Gutierrez threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns, he ran for two more and the Mayer football team earned a 74-14 win over visiting Phoenix Day School for the Deaf on Friday night.
Gutierrez completed 13 of 18 passes and used his legs for 107 yards rushing as the Wildcats bounced back from an ugly 48-8 loss against Salome last week. Gary Wells caught three of those touchdowns from the senior quarterback.
As for Kwame Jackson, he scored three touchdowns on 88 yards rushing and Dakotta Jensen recovered a fumble and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown.
"The defense played well and the whole team looked good," Mayer head coach Rick Lashley said.
Next up, Mayer [2-1 Overall] will travel to Joseph City [2-2 Overall] on Friday, Sept. 18. The Wildcats have outscored its opponents 122-22 in its two wins.
