Yavapai spikers split on first day of Roughrider Invite

After suffering a loss to Lee College of Texas, the Roughriders bounced back and played an exciting match in the nightcap against Seward County C.C, winning 25-19, 25-21, 25-20.

Offensively, Yavapai was led by the trio of sophomore middle blocker Paige Hamilton (.625), freshman outside hitter Iva Alebic (.333) and sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Park (.292). The three combined for 33 of Yavapai's 38 kills.

Freshman setter Jordan Tilley handled most of the setting duties and finished with 26 assists. She also helped the effort defensively with 12 digs. Sophomore setter Kayle Park chipped in four assists, five digs, two blocks, and a kill. Sophomore libero Brooke Donnelly led the Roughriders with 13 digs and two service aces.

Yavapai improved to 7-4 overall and remains 2-0 in ACCAC play. The team finishes the Roughrider Invitational at 4 p.m. today, Sept. 5, against conference foe South Mountain.


Embry-Riddle men 2, The Master's 1

Embry-Riddle's men's soccer team upped its record to 3-1-0 overall after this one-goal win Friday night, Sept. 4, on the squad's campus field in Prescott.

The Eagles carried a 2-0 lead into halftime and made it stick. David Bates scored in the match's opening minute and Daniel Nunez followed with a goal toward the end of the first half.

Next up, ERAU will host Mid America Nazarene University at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7.
