Thursday rally planned in support of PUSD bond, override
PRESCOTT - Supporters of Prescott Unified School District's proposed bond and override will gather for a rally Thursday night at the Yavapai County Courthouse Plaza.
Organizers created the event, which runs 5 to 8 p.m., as a way of "gathering to share information about the bond and override, and to get more momentum behind it for the final push," according to the Yes Yes For Prescott Education political committee.
Committee Co-Chairman Dan Kenley noted the rally scheduled includes speeches by state legislators, including Reps. Karen Fann and Noel Campbell.
"It's a wonderful opportunity for people to interact with state elected officials," he said, adding that attendees will hear from their lawmakers about the direction of education funding in Arizona.
Speakers also include educators and community members who support the school district's proposal for a $15 million, 14-year bond and $6 million, seven-year budget override on the ballot this fall.
The schedule also includes live music performances by the Eagles tribute band South of Winslow; Prescott Jazz Combo; bluegrass and country music performers Generation Band; and rock, jazz and blues band The Cross-Eyed Possum.
Other performances include dancing led by Summer's Danceworks.
"Come be a part of a public demonstration of support for Prescott schools and the community of Prescott," Kenley said. "I think it's going to be fun."
