Day-use fee waived by Prescott National Forest on Nov. 11
In honor of Veterans Day and those who have served in the armed forces, Prescott National Forest (PNF) will waive the $5 fee at all day-use facilities across the forest on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Waivers take place at Lynx Lake Recreation Area, Granite Basin Recreation Area, Thumb Butte, Mingus Mountain Recreation Area, Hayfield Draw and Alto Pit day use areas. The waiver does not apply to overnight campgrounds, group use fees or fees charged by concession-operated facilities.
PNF also honors active duty military members year round with the free Interagency Annual Military Pass honored at all Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Reclamation, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service sites charging entrance or standard amenity fees.
Traditionally, fees are not charged on 98 percent of national forests and grasslands, and about two-thirds of developed recreation sites in national forests and grasslands can be used for free. People can enjoy many recreation opportunities such as camping, sightseeing and hiking throughout the year at no cost.
