Mortimer Farms presents donation to hospital
DEWEY - On Oct. 26, the Mortimer Family presented a donation check for $3,500 from the 2015 Pumpkin Fest and Corn Maze event to Phoenix Children's Hospital.
Dorn Homes provided $500 of the gift.
The ceremony took place on the stage inside the barn, with bands and dancers in attendance. Jessica Martin, director of Major Gifts & Foundation Giving, accepted the check on behalf of Phoenix Children's Hospital from presenters Gary and Sharla Mortimer and their son Hayden, who rode in on his horse.
Hayden, now 15, was rushed to the Phoenix hospital when he was 9 months old for a life-saving surgery. This year, their corn maze featured a Phoenix Children's Hospital logo.
The money will be used to help with the building of the hospital's new emergency room.
The annual pumpkin festival's last weekend is Oct. 30-31. On Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., the Pumpkin Chuckin' contest will take place, and on Halloween evening, Tequila Highway will be performing at the barn dance from 6 to 9 p.m.
Festival hours are Friday noon-9 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission, which covers all rides and entertainment plus pumpkins for the entire family, is $15 per person, with children under 3 admitted free. Mortimer Farms is at the corner of Highway 69 and 169 in Dewey.
