Letter to the editor: Leaving cable

EDITOR:

After a 15 percent price increase over the last 18 months and notification that Cableone will soon eliminate our basic cable program and require us to upgrade and even higher cost. I decided it was time to look for an alternative. I have also been disappointed in the reliability of our cable despite their ads to the contrary.

My requirements are simple. I wanted an economical solution, all major networks and HD.

I finally found AZ TV WORX in Prescott who arranged a visit to make a quote. After deciding we had a good situation James proposed an antenna, a price quote and a guarantee of reception quality. He also provided all the info I needed to submit to our HOA for approval.

The installation took longer than he had estimated (but he held to his quote) and we now receive almost 30 channels FREE over the air.

We get ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and 4 PBS station all in 1080HD and 5.1 Dolby sound. We also get two weather channels and a couple of old movie channels. We do not get MSNBC, CNN or ESPN. Nor do we get 75 other channels we didn't want but had to pay for with cable.

Although I spent a few hundred dollars on the installation, my investment will pay for itself in about 5 months and we'll then reap free TV with no price increases. Additionally, we get PBS World and Create channels that basic cable didn't offer.

Considering our mountainous area an antenna may not work for everyone but perhaps others in our area can benefit from our experience. We recommend this local company AZ TV WORKS for a job well done.
