Yavapai College starting pitcher Curt Schilling was tagged for a three-run home run in the third inning to break open the Roughriders' final game of the season, a loss, at the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colo.
San Jacinto (Texas), the defending national champions, ended YC's championship hopes with an 11-9 win. Yavapai officially finished third in the nation.
Catcher Brian Deak hit his 29th home run of the season in the loss, as he signed a letter of intent to further his career at San Diego State. Schilling, a freshman, was considering an offer from the Boston Red Sox.
