Diminutive Yavapai College baseball player Chad Kosower hit his only home run of the season - and it got the Roughriders to the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colo.
Kosower, a 5-8, 165-pound freshman second baseman, hit an opposite-field shot that barely cleared the short porch in right field at Roughrider Park in Prescott on a Sunday afternoon game. The two-out, two-run blow in the bottom of the eighth snapped a 2-2 tie as YC beat Cochise 4-3 to clinch the Region 1 Championship and earn a ticket to the World Series.
"I really didn't think it was going over at all," Kosower admitted.
Future MLB'er Bob Howry retired the final three outs in order to preserve the win.
