Yavapai baseball will meet Salt Lake in West District Finals in Nevada

The NJCAA Division 1 West District Finals baseball tournament field was finalized on Saturday, as Yavapai, Salt Lake City, Trinidad State (Colorado), and Southern Nevada will square off starting Thursday in Henderson, Nevada.

Yavapai, the Region 1 champion, is scheduled to face Salt Lake in its opening game at 3 p.m. Thursday, Southern Nevada Sports Information Director Drew Farrar said Saturday night.

He added that tournament host and NJCAA D-1 No. 8-ranked Southern Nevada, the Region 18 champ, will battle Trinidad State, the Region 9 champ, in its first game at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Farrar said a complete district finals tournament bracket will be available sometime on Monday afternoon.

The double-elimination tournament will continue on Friday and Saturday in Henderson.

Yavapai has some recent history against Salt Lake. The Roughriders took on the squad for back-to-back doubleheaders to open the season Feb. 1 and 2 in Prescott Valley and went 4-0. The Roughriders won by scores of 5-2, 7-5, 9-8 and 16-6, in games switched from Roughrider Park to Bradshaw Mountain High due to wet conditions.

Salt Lake agreed to travel to Prescott Valley to take on the Roughriders after the College of Southern Nevada cancelled its annual beginning-of-the-season tournament in Henderson due to heavy rains in late January.
