Kingman Academy wins meet hosted by Chino Valley
Fighting the rain and cold in a three-way meet at Antelope Hills Golf Course Thursday, March 19, in Prescott, Kingman Academy won with a team total of 158 points against host Chino Valley and Wickenburg.
The Cougars recorded their second straight team score of 200, a mark they tallied on Tuesday.
Individually, the top scorer at Thursday's meet was Wickenburg's B.W. Schmidt with a 2-under par 34.
For Chino, its leading scorers were Rory Stupak (43), Hunter Stewart-Koberstein (51), Jared Minkus (51) and Jake Hanson (55). Stupak, Minkus and Hanson are all sophomores.
"Rory and Jared are both first-year players, each with only three competitive matches on their résumé," Chino coach Jerry Behm said. "Yet each match they're getting better. Rory will be (scoring) in the 30s by the end of the season. Jared and Jake, as well as C.J. Knight and Tyler Gianfrancesco, should be consistent performers in the mid 40s as the year progresses."
The Cougars are scheduled to play at a meet at Elephant Rocks Golf Course in Williams at 2:30 p.m. next Tuesday, March 24.
