Obituary: Virginia Ann Miller
Virginia Ann Miller, 95, passed away with her children at her side at Highgate Senior Living in Prescott Arizona on June 27, 2015. Virginia was born Aug. 4, 1919, to George H. and Clara L. Knostman in Davenport, Iowa.
She graduated from Davenport High School in 1936. She attended Iowa State Teacher's College where she was active in many organizations and graduated in 1940 with a double major in Mathematics and Chemistry. She then worked in actuarial sciences for Central Life Insurance.
Virginia married her college sweetheart, Frank Earl Miller, on June 7, 1942 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Virginia accompanied her husband for 30 years in his career as officer and aviator in the U.S. Navy. This took them to over 20 residences in the United States, Pakistan and Panama. They also traveled to many countries around the world.
Throughout the years, Virginia was very active in the United Methodist Church and served as a leader in her children's activities such as Scouting. Virginia made all of her wardrobe and was always learning new arts and crafts skills. She took an active role in the Navy League and later was a member of the Prescott chapter of MOAA. Virginia began the hobby of bird watching and became an avid birder, attending classes at the College of William and Mary. She was an active member in local chapters of Audubon Society. In 1973, Virginia and Earl chose Prescott, Arizona for their retirement home where they could share time hunting, fishing, birding and gardening.
Virginia is survived by her son, Stephen (Floramay) of Bismarck, North Dakota; her daughter, Linda (Robert Jr.) Reininger of San Jose, California; four grandchildren, Susie and Robert III, Maeann and Martin; and five great-grandchildren, C.J. and Sierra, Nicole and Robert IV, and Mariah. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years; her parents; her sister, Jeanette; and her brother, George.
